resources for effective children's ministry
Too often we find ourselves
almost desperate for teachers, so if someone - anyone - volunteers to teach/help
we willingly, and with great relief accept their help, whether they are
ready to help or not. Now while we want to involve as many people as possible
in our children's ministry we do need to have a "standard" of sorts for
those who serve in our education ministries. We are not looking for
or expecting perfection, but there should be certain qualifying standards
for all volunteers.
-
they have a personal relationship with Jesus by trusting
Him for salvation
-
they have filled out an application and have passed safety
requirements
-
they truly want to serve and are willing to serve a minimum
of three months - preferably 9 months - to build real relationships with
the kids
-
they spend time studying God's Word on their own to develop
their own walk with the Lord
-
they spend time reading books to challenge and encourage
their own growth
-
they are members or regular attenders at your church
-
they have someone to be accountable to - team teachers or
prayer partner
We want the people who teach our kids
to be effective in their ministry - standards are not meant to discourage
volunteers, but rather to encourage them as they serve.
In past issues of "About the Children's
Department" and "About the Youth Department" we have reviewed a number
of books and devotionals to help those who minister to our kids grow in
their own walk with the Lord. Consider building a teacher's growth
lending library of resources - such as those previously reviewed and encourage
your volunteers to make use of these books. "About the Children's
Department" and "About the Youth Department" are committed to continue
to review books that will make excellent additions to your teacher's growth
library.
