resources for effective children's ministry

Summer is a great time to offer a Baby-sitting class for your 5th and 6th grade kids, so now is a good time to plan and promote it. As your kids reach the ages of 11 and 12, many of them will begin to baby-sit, so a class that covers the do's and don'ts as well as potential trouble situations would be a great help for your kids. The following information should help in planning a class.
- Two months before
- pick a date - three Saturday mornings in a row work well
- find someone qualified to teach the first aid portion of the class
- begin to promote the class and begin sign-ups
- One month before
- continue to promote and have sing-ups
- order books for class - I recommend the following book
The Ultimate Baby-sitter's Survival Guide
Authors - Mary Guleserion & Terese Furey
Publisher - Focus on the Family Publishers
List Price - $8.99
This is an excellent book to build your class around as it is extremely thorough and covers virtually any question or need that could arise while baby-sitting as well as provides many ideas for games and activities for the baby-sitter to do with the children while baby-sitting for them. It is extremely well written and has an abundance of valuable information for pre-teen and teen baby-sitters.
- Favorite Features
- provides complete information covering everything
from what to do when you first arrive to handling
emergencies
- small size makes it ideal for baby-sitter to take along with
them when they baby-sit
- games, recipes and fun activities
- emergency section
I recommend buying one for each person in your class. Extremely well done Mary, Therese and Focus on the Family!
- Week before class
- make sure all books are in and that you have enough for
everyone who signed up
- send a reminder note to all the kids who will be in the class
- get ready for a great opportunity to help the kids in your ministry!
