About the Children's Department

resources for effective children's ministry

Growing with Jesus
- 100 Daily Devotionals
Author/Illustrator - Andy Holmes
Publisher - Tommy Nelson
Ages - 5- 9

    Favorite Features:

As I have written many times, it is so extremely important for us to help children learn to spend time reading their Bibles - well written devotionals for children are not always easy to come by, but this one is an excellent resource for kids to use on their own or with their families.  I highly recommend "Growing With Jesus" - it is an excellent resource - I especially appreciate the emphasis on application!  Extremely well done Andy and Tommy Nelson!

I Wonder How God Hears Me
I Wonder What I Can Give God
Author - Mona Gansberg Hodgson
Illustrator - Chris Sharp
Publisher - Concordia Publishing House
Ages - 4 - 7

    Favorite Features:

A couple of issues ago, I selected the "I Wonder" books as two of my top picks for children's book - now there are additional titles in this well written and delightful series!  I have found the "I Wonder" books to be a completely enjoyable way to help teach young children about God and the world He created.  Children absolutely love these books and thoroughly enjoy participating with these stories.  I sincerely hope we will have additional "I Wonder" books to be equally delighted with!  Extremely well done Mona, Chris and Concordia Publishing House!

The Treasure Tree
The Two Trails
Authors - John & Cindy Trent & Gary & Norma Smalley
Illustrator - Judy Love
Publisher - Tommy Nelson
Ages - 5 - 8

    Favorite Features:

Story books with delightful pictures are fun to read - when these stories also teach important truths that is even better!  These books help children learn to understand how they and others have different personalities and to enjoy each other.  Both of these stories will also help children, parents and teachers better understand and appreciate how God made them.  Very nicely done John, Cindy, Gary, Norma, Judy and Tommy Nelson!

The Whale's Tale
Retold by - Beverly Larson
Illustrator - Tracey Moroney
Publisher - Standard Publishing
Ages - 2 - 5

    Favorite Features:

Jonah is one very familiar and well loved Bible story for young children and board books are excellent choices for the younger child - combine them and you have an excellent choice for the very young children.  This book is a fine choice to help children begin to understand about obeying.  Very nicely done Beverly, Tracey and Standard Publishing!
