Halloween - What's a Christian to Do?
Author - Steve Russo
Publisher - Harvest House

There are many "issues" that we as parents and CE people have to face and deal with.  One of the most challenging is the subject of Halloween.  All of us would no doubt agree that originally Halloween had it's origins in a very pagan and evil setting.  We would also have very little trouble agreeing that today there is a much greater trend toward occult and evil influences surrounding Halloween than there was when many of us were children.  So, where does this leave us in dealing with Halloween?  In this resource, Steve Russo does a very good job relating the history of this "holiday" with present day realities and also provides some guidelines - from the Bible and ideas on how to handle Halloween.

Favorite Features:

  • makes the history behind Halloween easy to understand
  • gives a clear view to our current society view of Halloween and the occult influences
  • gives some excellent ideas for alternatives to Halloween
  • provides excellent guidelines to help you make decisions
  • questions in the back help you think through each chapter
I recommend this book for families and churches wanting to find a way to decide how they should "handle" Halloween.  It is very well written, very informative and has lots of helpful ideas.  Very nicely done Steve and Harvest House!

    * My husband and I decided before we had children that when we did, we would celebrate "Family Day" rather than Halloween.  We wanted to make our "Family Day" so much better than Halloween that our children would never feel like they were "missing out" by not celebrating Halloween.  Each year we go to our kids favorite restaurant, stop by a Christian bookstore to buy them a good book and let them each pick a bag of candy from the store.  Then we play games and spend time together.  Our kids have always loved "family day" and say it is better than Halloween could ever be!
