Bright Idea! - Contest

resources for effective children's ministry

We receive Bright Ideas in good faith that they are not from a published source. If you know of a Bright Idea that has already been published please let us know.

This terrific "Bright Idea!" was sent to us by Christine Noga.

This is a 'contest' we sponsored for all our teachers, encouraging them to stretch in their relationships with the children in their classes. On small slips of paper, I made a form, which included their name, class taught, date and a series of items to be checked off.  (some items were: called my student, memorized a verse in relation to a lesson being taught, wrote my student a note, other).

Over a three month period, the teacher could request as many slips as they wanted, and they were eligible to fill out a slip for each child contacted. At the end of the quarter, all slips received were placed in a bowl and one was drawn for a prize.  We awarded a choice of two prizes:  A $25 gift certificate to a nice restaurant in town, or a $25 gift certificate to a local shopping center.

People love to win things, and although some teachers were not motivated to 'compete', many were.  In the long run . . . the kids were the winners!
