In
this issue of "About the Children's Department", we have several special
features - first for a couple of years I have wanted to take a look at
mid-week resources and now with the release of FW Friends from group Publishing,
I have finally been able to do so! I also included reviews of Gospel
Light's "Kid's Time" and Lifeway's "Team Kid". I truly believe offering
a midweek club for kids can be one of the most effective and rewarding
outreaches into the community as well as an effective tool to help church
kids grow that a church can take advantage of. I am very pleased
to finally be able to include reviews of well written resources, designed
to be genuinely effective!
With Christmas just around the corner, we are including reviews of books,
videos and toys for children that encourage character development and help
teach Bible truth. So many of the toys in the stores relate to Saturday
morning cartoons - many of which do not reinforce the values we try to
teach our children. This is one of the reasons I am so delighted
to see videos, books and toys available that do teach and reinforce these
important values!
I also want to announce an exciting new change to "About the Children's
Department" - beginning with the next issue, "About the Children's department"
will combine with "About the Youth Department" to become " 'Round About
the Church". We look forward to this merging of our two magazines
as it will allow us to expand to include information, ideas and resources
for every area of the church as well as give us the flexibility to update
with reviews of new releases in a much more timely fashion. " 'Round
About the Church" will also be easier to find - just to to
roundaboutthechurch.com . . . from there you will find an index directing
you to the different areas of each issue - Nursery, Children's Department,
Youth Department, adult Ministry, Music Ministry, Administration and Pastor's
Study. We hope you will find this change one resulting in " 'Round
About the Church" being even more helpful and useful for you!
As always, we love to hear from you, so if you have any questions or
ideas, please feel free to e-mail them to us!
