resources for effective children's
ministry

Hello!
Summer is just around the bend with many exciting opportunities for
ministry that are unique to the summer! In this issue we will look at a
variety of resources for effective ministry as well as resources to be
used in the homes. We will also look at some great ways to utilize
V.B.S. resources other than traditional V.B.S.!
This is our biggest issue to date and there are many other ideas,
information and resources included this time that I hope will prove
helpful to you as you serve in your area of ministry.
We have been receiving
requests for information, ideas and resources for youth ministry, so
along with our next issue - due out in June - we will be including the
first issue of "About the Youth Department". If you have questions
about youth resources or ideas that have worked for you, please e-mail
them to us and we will try to include them in our first issue of "About
the Youth Department".
Over the past few months I
have run into several former Children's Directors who have left the
ministry due to politics in their church. I would like to encourage
pastors and church boards to support and encourage their Children's
Directors. The ministry of the Children's Department is so vitally
important to both the children and the church - we need Children's
Directors who are passionately committed to effective ministry. If God
has sent you a Children's Director, first of all thank Him for doing
so. Then commit to support your Children's Director by refusing to
listen to complaints unless the complainer has talked to the Children's
Director about their concerns themselves. Listening to that kind of
gossip and then caving in to it will compromise your ability to have
effective ministry. No Children's Director is perfect - no pastor or
board or church member is either - but if they know that they have your
firm support they will be able to serve effectively. I would like to
encourage pastors and boards to support and encourage their Children's
Directors so that they are free to serve effectively. It is so sad to
talk with Children's Directors who have not been supported by the
church and have left children's ministry as a result. If you are a
Children's Director I would like to encourage you that what you are
doing does really matter and to try to continue to serve the Lord where
you are. If that is not possible, please remain open to the Lord's
leading and continue to trust Him.
Well, I pray that this
issue will be a source of help to you in your ministry and that
effective ministry will continue to flourish in your church this Spring
and Summer!
